Description
F-12. in the mid 1950's Francis Henning of New Jersey illegally struck several different dates of Jefferson Nickels. It's believed he made 500,000 in all. The 1944 counterfeits were quickly found out as none had the large mint mark on the reverse. Henning was prosecuted and did some jail time and now his work is highly sought after by collectors. The quality of these fakes can be so good that even today they fool many numismatists.
