Soft luster on silver-gray surfaces that offer fiery orange highlights at the rims, especially on the reverse. Struck and distributed in late 1899 though dated 1900. American school kids from coast to coast collected millions of pennies to fund the statue of America's greatest friend and ally, the Marquis de LaFayette.
