AU-50 Details 1800 $5 Gold

Bright yellow-gold with traces of olive iridescence. Ex-jewelry, pinback removed at some point, marks seen at 3:00 and 9:00 on the reverse. Somewhat rare, as are most early Federal gold pieces. The shortcomings are easily forgiven for this early half eagle, representing the last of the 18th-century coinage for the denomination.
