Description
The Pittsburgh Post, April 19, 1906. Headline: "Earthquakes and Fire Ruin San Francisco; Hundreds Dead." The city was devastated by the massive earthquake -- who knows how high on today's Richter Scale it would have registered, but the destruction was intense. Indeed, most of the city burned or crumbled, but the San Francisco Mint stood the test of the elements and came out of the ordeal virtually unscathed -- they didn't call her the "Granite Lady" for nought!
