Choice Fine 1844 Orphan Annie Dime

Fine to VF, one of those Fine-18 coins. Pleasing silver-gray surfaces offer solid eye appeal. This low-mintage issue has been called the Orphan Annie dime for decades. No one knows why the nickname originated, but this writer suggests it's because the 1843 and 1845 issues had branch mint coinage as well, but not so for poor little Orphan Annie.
