Description
PCGS Genuine, A Grade. Near AU to our eyes despite a tiny bit of paper loss on the upper edge. Fairly crisp and well-inked. Face slab insert remarks: "Salvaged by The Doria Project from Italian Line flagship Andrea Doria, sunk July 26, 1956 in the Atlantic." Back reads "This bank note, removed from the first class bank safe August 17, 1984, withstood more than 25 years in seawater at a depth of 225 feet." We have seen other Andrea Doria currency; this one is easily among the finest known of a group that is generally in far lower grades and often tattered and waterlogged in appearance. Superior quality meets nautical tragedy. Includes pamphlets and other ephemera in original box of issue.
