Description
Probably struck by the State of Louisiana after the Mint was taken over from U.S. employees. Lustrous pale champagne-silver surfaces with soft golden highlights. This date was struck by three different entities -- the U.S., the State of Louisiana, and the Confederate States of America. The early U.S. issues are free of die cracks and are quite plentiful; the Louisiana issues have reverse die cracks and are quite scarce; the C.S.A. issues have reverse cracks plus an obverse crack from the rim to Liberty's face, and are considered very rare.
